VIAVI Solutions has introduced the VIAVI Automation Management and Orchestration System (VAMOS), an intelligent automation platform designed to aid wireless and cloud service providers, network equipment manufacturers, and their ecosystems. The platform integrates AI/ML capabilities to reduce operational expenses and accelerate time-to-market.
As network architectures become increasingly complex, operators and equipment manufacturers are exploring the next generation of technology, migrating to the cloud, and utilising AI and machine learning (ML). Continuous Testing (CT) has become more prevalent to provide a comprehensive understanding of real-world performance. However, labs face challenges due to increased test requirements and limited personnel. Automation has thus become essential to manage the complexity, scheduling, and manpower demands of CT. This allows technicians to handle numerous test cases efficiently and focus on higher-order analysis and problem-solving.
VIAVI's VAMOS, part of its NITRO Wireless portfolio, aims to address these challenges by automating test campaigns and their execution through a centralised, cloud-based, Lab-as-a-Service platform. The platform's AI and ML capabilities facilitate test optimisation and quicker response times.
The platform also features customisable workspaces and configurations that streamline the testing process across various organisations and lab locations. Shared tool testbeds and individual sandboxes support multiple test needs, while the robust analytics and reporting capabilities enhance test resource utilisation and accuracy.
Ian Langley, Senior Vice President of the Wireless Business Unit at VIAVI, commented on the significance of the new platform. "As VIAVI works with leading labs around the globe to integrate wireless, cloud and AI, the need for automation and orchestration has never been clearer," he said. "In initial implementations at major labs, VAMOS has already demonstrated significant reductions in cost per test-hour and increases in hardware utilisation."
In addition to being a standalone solution for scheduling and running test campaigns based on VIAVI's NITRO Wireless portfolio, VAMOS can also be integrated with third-party automation frameworks. This allows the platform to interact with a broader range of products and existing test environments, with connections available via both software and hardware.
Furthermore, VAMOS will be incorporated into the VIAVI Automated Lab-as-a-Service for Open RAN (VALOR) for on-demand, cloud-based testing. VALOR is designed to manage and support 5G and Open RAN deployments, which benefit from access to tools and expert staff with minimal ramp-up time. The project is funded by the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund.
VIAVI provides network test, monitoring, and assurance solutions for various sectors, including telecommunications, cloud services, enterprises, first responders, military, aerospace, and railway. The company is also known for its light management technologies used in 3D sensing, anti-counterfeiting, consumer electronics, industrial and automotive applications, and government and aerospace projects.
