Hidden within a Vodafone UK financial statement released last week was news that Vodafone New Zealand had lost 35,000 customers in the three months up to September.
In the quarter to July, 2010 Vodafone said it had 2,479,000 customers. That figure fell to 2,444,000 for the September period.
When contacted Vodafone said that the figures exclude customers of its wholesale partners such as TelstraClear.
The firm also tipped its hat to 2degrees, which is where many of the customers are thought to have gone.
“These results show that we are operating in a highly competitive market, clearly 2degrees is the most successful new entrant we’ve seen. We love a challenge and we will compete hard,” said Matt East, External Communications Manager, Vodafone.
