Vodafone: We have a 4G network

Mon, 14th Feb 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

At a Vodafone media event for the launch of the Sure Signal device, CEO Russell Stanners (pictured) has claimed that Vodafone's existing network is actually a 4G network.

Stanners' reasoning for the claim is that Vodafone's network is the equivalent of some US carriers that market their networks as 4G.

He also claims that the capabilities of Vodafone's current 3G HSPA network meets the criteria of a 4G network as specified by the International Telecommunications Union.

"Today we have the network in the CBD of Auckland capable of a max speed of 42mb/s," explained Stanners. "Based on what the American carriers are doing, we've got 4G. AT&T's branded theirs as a 4G network, and it's the same as what we've got."
