Vodafone's 4G hits Christchurch
Tue, 30th Apr 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Vodafone will preview 4G in Christchurch today, prior to its launch in parts of the city on May 29.

Becoming the first South Island city, and only the second in New Zealand, to have superfast access to content and information on the move, the benefits of 4G will be on show today at a series of business and customer events at Vodafone’s Christchurch office.

Russell Stanners, CEO of Vodafone New Zealand, says the launch of a commercial 4G network will be a major milestone for the city.

“For many people, their smartphone has become one of the few items that they can’t leave home without," he says.

"4G is the network that the best smartphones were made for, meaning you can access all the information and entertainment you want in real time – and connect faster than ever before.”

Stanner says guests will have the opportunity to experience 4G on Vodafone’s range of 4G-capable devices, including the just-launched Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC One SV.

Vodafone is honouring the promise made when officially launching 4G across New Zealand in February this year, vowing to make the network available in parts of Christchurch by the end of May.

“This is not a trial it is a commercial launch, 4G is live in New Zealand," Stanners said at the time of the launch.

Suggesting the telco is bang on track, Kiwis can expect to see 4G in parts of Wellington by August/September.
