Web Drive launches 100% pure NZ cloud service
New Zealand Internet Services company, Web Drive, has today announced the launch of the Web Drive Cloud, the company’s new Infrastructure as a Service offering. Webdrive’s General Manager, Robin Dickie, says "Web Drive Cloud sets new benchmarks for the local industry, and will empower developers".
Under development for over a year, the company has built a sophisticated management portal that enables Cloud customers to manage their server environment – creating, destroying and cloning servers at will, managing load-balancing and performing a wide range of administration functions – all through an easy-to-use, web-based portal.
“Throughout the process we engaged with local developers to meet their demands. They wanted utility computing, pay as you go billing and the ability to manage every aspect of their environment.” Dickie says.“We built this service to make developers and IT professionals jobs easier, and to empower them to deliver great projects more rapidly.”
Dickie says Web Drive Cloud complies with the definition of Cloud defined by the US National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) and referenced in the New Zealand Cloud Computing Code of Practice.
“To qualify as a true cloud service, a service must provide on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and metered pay-as-you-go usage. Web Drive Cloud does all that and more. It is also 100% based here in New Zealand – which is a critical factor for customers requiring their data to be managed in New Zealand under New Zealand jurisdiction,” he says.
Webdrive has been road-testing Web Drive Cloud with selected beta test customers for a few months, and feedback on the new service has been excellent, Dickie says.
He says the company has also put together a slightly tongue-in-cheek video that explains the new Web Drive Cloud service.
“It’s a bit cheeky, and a bit of fun,” says Dickie, “and probably the first time the phrase ‘ball ache” has been used in a product launch. But we think people will like it, and it gives a good overview of what Web Drive Cloud is all about.”
