Westpac signs on NCR for new ATMs

Wed, 20th Jan 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In a multimillion-dollar deal announced today, NCR will replace more than 80% of Westpac New Zealand’s ATM network by June.

The goal is to replace the bank’s network with next-generation NCR SelfServ ATMs in a bid to reduce costs and improve customer service. In its new community branches, Westpac will also deploy the NCR Cash Recycler (TCR) solution, which promotes more face-to-face contact between customers and staff.

In addition to ATM and TCR hardware and software the deal includes on-site maintenance, remote support and helpdesk services for up to nine years in renewable three-year terms.

In a release Westpac New Zealand’s Business Development Manager Anand Ranchord said, “Our agreement with NCR means Westpac’s customers will enjoy the best ATM experience possible thanks to the very latest technology, some of which has not been seen in New Zealand before.”

The bank announced its return to more convenient, community-based banking in December, and the new ATMs are part of the initiative, which also includes opening new, smaller branches in order to get closer to its customers.

The 24-hour Westpac lobbies will have NCR ATMs equipped with “intelligent” deposit functionality and an integrated night safe in order to allow customers to make deposits at any time.
