Wipro and Nutanix launch shared database management solution
Tue, 5th May 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Wipro has partnered with Nutanix to launch a new Digital Database Services (DDS) solution to enhance database delivery and management and enable IT teams to focus on more pressing tasks.

Wipro's DDS is powered by Nutanix Era and Nutanix HCI software and is available now. The solution is designed to help users consolidate database workloads onto a shared infrastructure to manage database sprawl, the company states.

According to Wipro, as the data landscape shifts there is greater pressure on IT teams and departments.

With legacy infrastructures, databases can be a top obstacle to time to value and linear scalability, as it prevents rapid scaling of operations such as transaction processing and means business can lose valuable transactions or insights that directly impact their revenue or decision-making capabilities.

The DDS solution has been designed to solve these issues, enabling enterprises and users to provision and manage databases just-in-time, without prior knowledge of hardware, database software and associated configurations.

By automating and simplifying database administration brings key benefits, such as increased efficiency, agility, predictability, cost effectiveness and scalability across the enterprise, Wipro states.

In addition, the solution brings rapid provisioning, innovative pricing, reusability and supportability.

Cost reductions are brought by the reduction of acquisition and operating costs of databases, consolidation and effective utilisation of resources (controlling sprawl, better lifecycle management), and better utilisation of database administrators' time by allowing them to focus on innovations and optimisations.

In addition, Wipro states it is bringing innovative pricing to users with its as-a-service model, which makes costs more predictable and dispersed to business units.

As for rapid provisioning, the solution is able to deliver services in minutes as compared to days. Furthermore, business lines, database administrators, or non-IT users can consume services through a self-service portal, reducing overall time.

The solution is also reusable, as it integrates with other third-party cloud management platforms and orchestration tools to help reuse existing investment. Furthermore, it brings supportability for multiple database technologies and versions.

Wipro vice president Cloud and Infrastructure Services Satish Yadavalli says, “Wipro's joint offering with Nutanix brings agility, speed and flexibility for core and digital applications delivered as a service.

"Wipro's Digital Database Services (DDS) powered by Nutanix HCI platform and Era delivers end-to-end services from transition, modernisation, continuous deployment and automated lifecycle management operations of enterprise, open source and NoSql databases."

"Integrations are simplified as developers and application owners have access to a repository of customised services APIs. With this joint solution, we are confident of helping our joint customers optimise the Database resources and license cost," says Yadavalli.

Nutanix vice president and general manager Nutanix Era and Business Critical Apps Bala Kuchibhotla says, “Legacy database management is traditionally complex and requires massive amounts of resources from database administrators, taking away time they could be spending on more critical initiatives.

"With data volumes growing exponentially year-over-year, provisioning, protection, patching, performance and copy data management operations are becoming even more tedious and expensive.

"Our partnership with Wipro, will help develop the efficient and elegant Database-as-a-Service solutions for our customers to further our mission of enabling any organisation to embrace the power of the cloud.
