2010: No change expected for ICT salaries
Mon, 8th Feb 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hudson Recruitment’s 2010 Salary Guide for ICT roles has revealed that salaries saw no significant change in 2009 and are expected to remain ‘constant’ in 2010.

According to the recruitment consultant, salaries across the ICT profession in New Zealand have seen “no significant change” in the last 12 months.

An annual salary of a Chief Information Officer in 2008 is listed as the same in 2009 ($160k -$200k). A business analyst can expect to pull in $85k – $100k, the same as in 2009. In comparison Trade Me’s salary expectation for the same position is listed as $70k - $120k.

Information was collated from Hudson’s placements and in consultation with its specialist recruitment consultants. The guide aims to be a “practical and useful tool in understanding what employees are worth in today’s competitive market”.

Hudson also reports that a November survey of 218 ICT hiring managers found that 71% of companies felt salaries would remain steady in 2010.

The study notes that until the last quarter of 2009 many IT projects would have been on hold which had a negative impacted on contract rates and also decreased the demand for roles such as Business Analysts and Testers. “Many candidates have been open to accepting lower base salaries due to the scarcity of roles" according to a release by Hudson, adding, “Over the next 12 months, we expect to see ICT salaries to remain constant, with contracting rates varying based on demand.”
