Apple has released the first developer betas for version 27.3 across its platforms, adding new Siri AI app intents for a range of Apple apps.

The update also includes features for Apple Watch, the Health app, Fitness+, Safari, StandBy, iPhone Duo and iPadOS, widening the scope of Apple's latest software test cycle.

The new Siri AI app intents let users ask Siri to carry out actions in apps including Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. The update supports more involved tasks such as organising files, grouping Safari tabs, scheduling messages, favouriting photos and creating Journal entries.

Watch features

On Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, the developer beta introduces what Apple calls Audio Intelligence. The feature uses the built-in microphone, the S11 chip, Apple Intelligence models on iPhone and Private Cloud Compute.

Two new functions are central to the change. Live Rewind shows the previous 15 seconds of a conversation as a text snippet after a double-press of the Digital Crown, while Siri Recap creates summaries of conversations for later review in the new Siri app.

These additions join Sound Recognition and Shazam, already available in watchOS 27. Apple says Audio Intelligence is designed with user control, privacy, security and accessibility in mind.

Health update

The redesigned Health app has returned for beta testing and now supports all English-language variants, as well as French, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.

According to the beta release notes, Apple has rebuilt the Health app around Apple Intelligence. The app adapts to a user's data and includes features such as Health Age and movement assessments.

The broader language support is one of the more visible changes in the 27.3 cycle, extending testing of the redesigned app beyond a narrower initial set of users.

Fitness and Safari

Fitness+ is also gaining a new workout option called Gym Strength. The feature offers personalised four-week strength-training plans based on a user's goals, experience, schedule and available equipment.

The workouts include recommendations on exercises, repetitions, sets and load, alongside video demonstrations from Apple Fitness+ trainers. The feature will work on iPhone and iPad, and users who add Apple Watch can log exercises, reps and loads while tracking measures such as heart rate and calories burned.

Safari is getting a set of new tools in the beta, including Vertical Tabs, which adds a vertical tab layout on Mac and iPad, and Adaptive Dark Mode, which can automatically apply Dark Mode to webpages that do not support it natively.

Apple is also extending Siri's role in Safari with custom actions that let users move, sort, organise and close tabs through voice requests. The same controls also cover web history management.

Broader rollout

Elsewhere, Apple has updated StandBy with revised analogue and digital clock faces, new Calendar and Weather faces, and an updated Photos face that supports Shared Albums. Users can also create multiple versions of each face and swipe between them.

These StandBy changes were initially limited to iPhone Duo but are now available on other iPhone models that support the feature. Apple is also adding a Reachability function for iPhone Duo that lets users shift the left or right side of the screen closer to their thumb with a short swipe.

On supported iPad models, the beta adds Siri Mode in Camera and Visual Intelligence with Apple Pencil. That extends Apple's push to place more AI-linked features directly inside first-party apps and device controls.

The 27.3 developer betas are now available for testing across Apple's platforms.
