Cracks under the Surface for Microsoft

Tue, 13th Nov 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Some early owners of Microsoft's newly released Surface tablet are complaining the product is literally coming apart at the seams.

Online forums across the internet have reported widespread concern that the touch cover of the new product tears open along the magnetic edge, leaving wires exposed.

After initially refusing to comment on the allegations, Microsoft admitted a small number of covers are prone to splitting less than a fortnight after their release to the public.

Through an emailed statement, Microsoft said they were "aware of a small number of instances of material separation."

The software giant was also quick to assure owners that they would replace the faulty products, saying:

"Microsoft makes every effort to ensure our customers receive a high quality product."

After launching on October 26, the tablet is the company's first hardware release, showing a new direction for the long-time software makers.
