Telecom IT subsidiary Gen-i is making an effort to combat the evolving Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) threat to data centers, joining with Arbor Networks in its Cloud Signalling Coalition (CSC).

Counting companies like TelstraClear, Vocus Communications and Prolexic among its members, the CSC is a partnership between service providers, data center operators and enterprises which aims to mitigate DDoS attacks.

Gen-i head of networked ICT products Leanne Buer says the move will improve business quality for clients.

"We are pleased to participate in Arbor's Cloud Signaling Coalition,” Buer says.

"Arbor is an important part of our Safecom service and we see the CSC as an important tool that will help us further reduce time-to-mitigation for dynamic threats facing our client networks.”

Arbor Networks' country manager for Australia and New Zealand Nick Race is equally positive about the move.

"The Cloud Signaling system is efficient and integrated, bridging the customer premise to the service provider cloud. Arbor is bringing its decade of DDoS mitigation experience in ISP networks to the enterprise at a time when availability threats are top of mind for network operators.”
