ICT provider in another Dimension when it comes to carbon
Dimension Data, the US$5.8 billion global IT services and solutions provider, has been awarded a score of 94 (out of 100) by CDP for disclosure of its climate change strategy.
"This is the sixth year that Dimension has responded to CDP’s questionnaire, and our score of 94 is our highest to date," says Colin Curtis, Dimension Data’s Global Director for Sustainability.
"We are firmly committed to looking at ways that ICT can tackle not only economic, but also environmental and social issues – not just in our own business, but also for our clients."
According to the Global e-Sustainability Initiative, the use of ICT could cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 16.5%, amounting to US$ 1.9 trillion in energy and fuel savings, by 2020.
"Dimension Data’s score is once again comparable to the top 10 per cent of FTSE 350 companies that make up the FTSE 350 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index," says Daniel Turner, Head of Disclosure at CDP.
"This improved rating shows that the Group continues to honour its high level of commitment to tackling climate change, and that it understands the risks and opportunities represented by a changing world."
When Dimension Data delisted from the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges in 2010, the company was no longer obligated to participate in the CDP report. However, the Group committed to making a voluntary submission every year so that it can measure its own commitment to sustainability and related reporting.
"This philosophy is important to us. Sustainability is becoming an important strategy for many of our clients, and we believe it’s important to share the experience we’ve gained – both within our own operations, and from helping other organisations," Curtis adds.
"Over the past 12 months, we were able to further reduce the travel, energy and waste in the organisation, and encourage our employees to make a positive contribution to society through sustainable initiatives.
"For example, in addition to holding regular e-Waste Weeks, our Australia business launched fun employee engagement campaigns such as Meatless Monday and Grown Your own Dinner, to name a few."
In March last year, Dimension Data was also named as a Leader in the Green Quadrant Sustainable Technology Services report by Verdantix for having a dedicated sustainability practice, a wide range of capabilities, and a strong track record in corporate sustainability.
