Microsoft squeezes Citrix into Windows server pack
Citrix has said it will collaborate with Microsoft on rich graphics support for virtual desktops.
Under a new collaboration agreement, Citrix has said it will support the upcoming Microsoft RemoteFX technology platform, which will be available in a future release of Windows Server 2008 R2 service pack 1.
As part of the agreement, Citrix XenDesktop will expand its high-definition HDX technology to “further enhance the capabilities of RemoteFX and extend them to a broader range of use cases and locations” said Citrix.
Citrix XenDesktop with HDX technology will be able to detect RemoteFX-capable servers and endpoints, leveraging built-in hardware acceleration to deliver graphics-intensive, media-rich or 3D applications to virtual desktop end users.
According to Citrix, the move is the latest in a set of announcements that expands the company’s partnership with Microsoft in desktop virtualisation.
