No Telecom Windows Phone 7 until March 2011

Thu, 16th Dec 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Windows Phone 7 launched first in New Zealand (thanks to the time line) on October 20th. But it was rather a low-key affair with only one, lonely handset being offered at launch from Vodafone.

Six weeks later and Gen-i stepped up to launch the LG Optimus 7Q to its business clients in early December.

The device is the first Windows Phone 7 device to be available for Telecom's  XT network.

But little has been said on when the device would become available to general customers of Telecom's XT network.

We managed to nail down a spokesperson for LG who could only tell us, "At the moment it is looking like the general Telecom release will be the first week of March 2011.

So that still leaves New Zealanders with just one Windows Phone 7 device - five long months after launch. Thankfully though, the HTC 7 is a good, solid handset if you really can't wait.

Microsoft is still shying away from releasing solid sales figures for WP7, despite mounting pressure.
