Kiwi internet service provider - hosting company NZNET seems to be in trouble, although director Stephen Andrews insists the business isn't shutting down.
The company's website went down yesterday, and although it came up again briefly last night it is currently down again. Phone lines are also dead.
On the Companies Office website yesterday the company was listed with a message stating it was in imminent danger of being cut off due to its failure to file an annual return, although this message has now been removed.
Andrews told TechDay the company's main ISP, niche provider Vibe Communication, cut off the company's connection abruptly yesterday following 15 months of prompt payment.
Vibe Communication referred all queries to their lawyers who offered no comment on the claim, but TechDay understands other suppliers are refusing to deal with NZNET.
A source says in addition to Vibe, NZNET has also been with Orcon, ICONZ, Hosting Direct and Maxnet. The company also tried to sign with Xnet, but when faced with the rigorous testing required, gave up.
TechDay understands that the company has suffered from disagreements between its directors, with two other directors resigning in recent months.
Andrews' other venture, computer gaming centre Caprica, has been sold to a new investor, Andrews adds.
Update: Our sources have revealed that Maxnet has agreed to supply wholesale international data traffic to NZNET. This will get their ADSL customers back up and running again, while the company's data center has been relocated to Hosting Direct today. It is unclear what these moves mean for the brand, but we will endeavour to keep you informed.
