Siemens enhances NX software with AI, cloud & immersive tools
Siemens has introduced several new features to its NX software, aiming to enhance product engineering capabilities across various industries. The latest updates, part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, include immersive collaboration, electro-mechanical workflows, and AI-enabled design tools.
One of the flagship updates is the introduction of NX X. This enhanced cloud-based product engineering solution offers built-in data management based on the Teamcenter portfolio for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). Customers can now store information on Siemens' secure cloud software-as-a-service infrastructure, which promises more flexibility, scalability, and collaboration.
David Doral, CEO of startup Dovetail Electric Aviation, shared his positive experience with NX X: "As a startup pushing the boundaries of innovation, we require capabilities to explore all options to ensure product performance. After reviewing market offerings, NX X has been implemented, providing next-generation product engineering capabilities that are future-proofed with value-based licensing. Together with Siemens, we have an exciting future with our new platform built for the future."
NX X supports desktop installation or browser streaming via Amazon Web Services (AWS) and enhances PLM capabilities with Teamcenter X software. The solution offers flexible, scalable licensing, allowing organisations to explore over 110 products and capability extensions to tailor their workflows according to project demands.
Another notable update is the release of NX Immersive Explorer, designed to provide a gaming-level experience for design reviews, virtual commissioning, and stakeholder sign-off. Due to launch in December 2024, this software is compatible with all major HMD hardware options. It aims to provide early valuable insights into the design process through immersive and interactive photorealism.
AI capabilities have also been integrated into NX, which include enhancements in topology optimisation, Performance Predictor, and gyroid modelling. Performance Predictor, an AI-enabled design simulation tool, focuses on validating material choices and mechanical performance of individual parts, allowing real-time design iteration and reducing costly errors.
The updates extend to NX CAM and NX Additive Manufacturing to improve workflow productivity and user control. Enhanced 3D Adaptive Roughing allows for more efficient machining and longer tool life, while improvements in the hole-making operation provide finer control over tool moves, ensuring enhanced surface quality.
Cloud Connect Tool Manager has been upgraded to streamline CNC programming. With direct access to tool vendor catalogues, it associates machining settings with cutting tools for faster programming. New facet selection methods, subnetting capabilities, and multi-axis additive build rules have been introduced to simplify additive manufacturing processes.
The enhancements also encompass the electrical and semiconductor industry. The new Managed Environment for Electronics Design integrates NX, Capital, Xpedition, and Teamcenter for seamless data flow and collaboration between electronic and mechanical design teams.
Additionally, NX for BIM now offers a comprehensive set of Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools to improve efficiency in architecture, engineering, and construction workflows. The new functionalities include an IFC data translator, a stair tool, and the ability to import from a 3D BIM library, which enhances interoperability.
