XT text glitch – Telecom’s advice to users
Tue, 16th Feb 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old
Telecom has issued a media advisory claiming a disruption of service on its XT Network last night was due to “an unusual pattern of (SMS) textingtraffic.”
The disruption affected text services, and to a lesser degree voice services, for XT customers in the “lower half of New Zealand” between 4pm and 11pm last night. Telecom is currently investigating the cause of the glitch, and is continuing to monitor the network. The company have to date made no comment on questions as to whether the glitch is in any way related to the high profile outage last month.
In the meantime it is advising customers still unable to send or receive text messages, to perform a “hard reset” of their device. Instructions as follows:
- Keep their device powered on
- Remove your battery from the device
- Remove your SIM card from the device
- Reinsert your SIM card
- Reinsert your battery
- Power up the device as normal
