Zuckerberg a sucker? Not a chance

Mon, 29th Apr 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

A symbolic salary is one thing, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg literally does have $1 for every Facebook user…

With the social media giant confirming in a recent filing that it's founder is surviving on a mere dollar salary this year, us common folk weeped with sadness.

Dismissing any bonuses or job perks, not even a free lunch, the young billionaire has previously stated his passion for the company outweighs any desire to earn megabucks.

“We don’t wake up in the morning with the primary goal of making money," he said in early 2012.

“Facebook was not originally created to be a company.

"It was built to accomplish a social mission — to make the world more open and connected.

"We think it’s important that everyone who invests in Facebook understands what this mission means to us.”

That's all well and good, but it's damn easy not to care about money when you have it.

And have it the young boy does, in absolute abundance.

Last year alone, Zuckerberg pocketed a staggering US$2.3 billion after exercising 60 million stock options before the company's IPO.

But on top of a gut-wrenching $1.1 billion tax bill, Facebook says it's leader will take a huge pay cut this year at his own request, but with a personal wealth estimated at $14.2 billion, why the hell not?
